Spin stories, spot secrets

Spin stories, spot secrets! The Narrator gets a funny prompt and three secret words, and has 60 seconds to weave them into a story without giving them away.

Everyone else listens closely and tries to name the hidden words. The trickier the word, the more it's worth.

How to play

  1. Agree on the number of rounds. A round ends when everyone has been the Narrator once.
  2. The Narrator sees a prompt and has 10 seconds to accept it or skip (one skip per game).
  3. Three secret words appear: two worth 2 points that fit the theme, and one worth 5 that's harder to work in.
  4. The Narrator tells a 60-second story that uses all three words.
  5. Everyone guesses the hidden words, then the Narrator reveals them and the points are scored.

Ways to vote

  • Sequential voting Starting on the Narrator's left, each player guesses one word in turn, with no repeats. With 5 or more players, if every word is guessed the Narrator scores 10 and nobody else scores.
  • Secret voting Everyone writes their guesses and reveals them together. If several players guess the same word, nobody scores for it.

Narrator challenges

  • Optional twist The Narrator may get a secret task, like mentioning a colour three times. Pull it off unnoticed for bonus points; if the player on their left calls it out, that player takes the points.

Example prompts

  • Wearing two different shoes to work laces, stride, kangaroo
  • A toddler making a mess at a fancy restaurant highchair, spill, spacesuit
  • A mission to rescue a captured spy code, interrogation, beach umbrella
